Stroudsburg Supplemental Security Income Attorneys
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a need-based program for disabled individuals who often cannot meet the minimum amount of time in the workforce to qualify for Social Security Disability. If you do not meet the Social Security Disability (SSDI) work history requirements, but are unable to work and meet the agency’s definition of “poor,” you may still qualify for supplemental security income benefits. Supplemental Security Income is available to disabled children and disabled adults who meet specific asset requirements.

The Social Security Disability Attorneys at Amori & Associates, LLC represent clients who have physical or mental disabilities in claims for Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Unlike Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits (DIB), you may still qualify for SSI benefits even if you have not worked and paid employment taxes.
The Social Security Administration looks at both your income and available resources when determining eligibility for SSI. If you are married, your spouse's income will also be considered. You can collect Supplemental Security Income (SSI) even if you own your own home or have one car.
If you have not worked and not paid into the Social Security system, you should still apply for Supplemental Security Income. If you are awarded Supplemental Security Income you will automatically receive Medicaid that will help with your doctor, hospital, and prescription costs.
Eligibility for Supplemental Security Income
- To be eligible for Supplemental Security Income benefits, you must prove you have one of the enumerated physical, mental or emotional disabilities also used in determinations for SSD benefits. Your condition must be severe enough to leave you unable to work for at least 12 months or the condition must be one that will eventually cause your death. Disabled children under 18 may also qualify for SSI benefits, but they must prove a higher level of disability than adults.
- To be eligible for SSI benefits, you must have limited income and less than $2,000.00 in cash or cash equivalent assets. The Social Security Administration may not just consider your personal income, but may look to other household income to determine financial eligibility, which includes income from alimony, child support or your spouse's resources.
